Dr. Nicole A. Heinrich is a board-certified veterinary dermatologist with nearly two decades of full-time clinical experience in specialty referral practice. She earned her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from the University of Minnesota following her undergraduate studies in biology at the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee. Dr. Heinrich completed a small animal rotating internship in Chicago and went on to complete her dermatology residency at McKeever Dermatology Clinics in Minnesota.
Dr. Heinrich serves as the residency director for McKeever Dermatology Clinics and is deeply committed to training the next generation of specialists. She has an extensive record of clinical research and publication, contributing to leading resources including Veterinary Dermatology, Veterinary Record Case Reports, Merck Veterinary Manual, Clinical Small Animal Internal Medicine and Plumb’s Pro, as well as co-authoring the textbook Skin Diseases of the Dog and Cat.
An experienced educator and dedicated clinician, Dr. Heinrich has delivered numerous lectures to veterinary audiences and continues to be actively involved in advancing dermatologic education through research, publishing, and mentorship. Her clinical and academic interests include allergic skin disease and complex otitis.
Stephen McCourtney brings more than 30 years of leadership experience spanning healthcare, technology, operations, and entrepreneurship. Before joining McKeever Dermatology Clinics as co-owner in 2017, he led large-scale business and technology initiatives for Fortune 100 organizations, including banking, healthcare, manufacturing, and financial services companies. Since becoming co-owner in 2017, he has helped guide the growth of the Midwest’s largest veterinary dermatology practice.
He is passionate about building exceptional teams and creating innovative solutions that improve outcomes for patients, pet owners and referring veterinarians. He is also the co-founder of Mobile Veterinary CT, bringing advanced imaging services directly to veterinary practices.
Dr. McFadden joined the McKeever Dermatology team in 2014 to pursue a three-year dermatology residency training program. Prior to starting a residency, Dr. McFadden worked at a busy north metro small animal general practice for 9 years where she did everything from managing diabetic patients to tooth extractions. She achieved Diplomat status with the American College of Veterinary Dermatology in 2017.
Dr. McFadden has a BA from Luther College and a veterinary degree from the University of Minnesota. She is a member of the American Academy of Veterinary Dermatology as well as the state and national Veterinary Medical Associations. Dr. McFadden especially enjoys working with patients whose skin problems have significantly impacted their life or those of their families. When not in the office, Dr. McFadden enjoys spending time with her husband, two children, two big dogs, and one very pampered kitty.
Dr. Johnson obtained his veterinary degree from the University of Minnesota. Following graduation, he worked as a mixed animal veterinarian. Subsequently, he returned to school at Iowa State University to pursue additional training in pathology, where he earned a PhD in veterinary pathology and completed a residency in anatomic pathology. Because of his desire to merge clinical practice with pathology, he later returned to small animal/general practice and worked as a diagnostic pathologist. During this time, he developed an interest in dermatology and dermatopathology and decided to pursue a residency in dermatology.
He’s excited to join the McKeever Dermatology team and is Fear Free Certified. In his free time, he enjoys running, playing pickleball, and spending time with family and friends.
Dr. Geishly Ann Cruz Matos was born and raised in Puerto Rico. She earned her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Tuskegee University in 2020. After graduation, Dr. Cruz completed a small animal rotating internship at BluePearl Veterinary Specialists in Georgia before working as an emergency relief veterinarian. She then completed a three-year dermatology residency at McKeever Dermatology Clinic, where she has continued to practice exclusively in veterinary dermatology for the past year.
Dr. Cruz is passionate about helping pets with skin and ear diseases achieve a better quality of life. Her professional interests include atopic dermatitis and immune-mediated skin diseases. She is proud to serve both English- and Spanish-speaking clients.
In her free time, Dr. Cruz enjoys cycling, watching sunsets, exploring new landscapes, listening to music, and spending time with the people who bring her happiness.
Dr. Fine earned his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Iowa State University, having first earned a bachelor’s degree in Biological Sciences from Missouri University of Science and Technology. Following graduation, he completed a small animal rotating internship at BluePearl Pet Hospital in Scottsdale, Arizona, before joining McKeever Dermatology Clinics to pursue a residency in veterinary dermatology.
His clinical interests include allergic skin disease and immune-mediated dermatologic conditions. He finds it particularly rewarding to see visible improvements in his patients’ comfort and quality of life throughout treatment.
Outside of the clinic, Dr. Fine enjoys spending time with his wife and daughter, traveling, exploring parks and hiking trails, and observing wildlife. His family also includes three dogs, Blondi, Dexter, and Bean; his cat, Aslan; and several small exotic pets.
